Learn MoreWhat we tell Los Angeles owners
Tarzana is a neighborhood of the City of Los Angeles, so in one sense every visit we make here is in Los Angeles. This page is for the parts of the city further from us, over the hill and to the east. The questions are the same everywhere: is anything wrong, and if so, how soon does it need fixing? We answer them the same way. Hillside streets sit near dry brush while the flats hold heat into fall, and each wears on a chimney in its own way. We tell you which one is at work on yours, and what that means for this year, instead of reading out a list.
What We Look at First
On hillside homes, the cap and spark screen. In older buildings, each fireplace in turn, with the flue tiles first.
What Cannot Wait
A missing spark screen near brush, cracked flue tiles, or a fireplace that pushes smoke into the room.
What Can Wait
A worn firebox floor that is still solid, light rust on a cap, tired paint on a metal chimney cover.
Next Door
We also go to Hollywood, Los Feliz, Silver Lake.
