Learn MoreWhat we tell La Canada Flintridge owners
An old Flintridge estate and a 1950s ranch house may sit close together but rarely share a problem. With nearly nine in ten homes owner-occupied, you usually decide for yourself, and we keep the explanation clear enough to do that. The 1971 San Fernando quake was felt strongly across these foothills, and a crack can sit quietly for decades. At about 1,200 feet, summers are dry and winter nights cooler than in the basin, which adds slow stress.
What We Look at First
Each stack on an older estate, old quake cracks with a camera, then the crown.
What Cannot Wait
A long-hidden 1971 crack that has opened, stone loosening on a tall stack, smoke backing into a period room.
What Can Wait
Patina on Monterey ironwork, weathered stucco on a stack, soot behind a fine old screen.
Next Door
We also go to Pasadena, South Pasadena, Glendale.
