Citrus and rail built this little town, incorporated in 1914, with older core homes and later tracts wrapped around it. Those older chimneys are often only lightly reinforced brick. Downtown took a real blow in 1994, so we pay attention to which part of town you are in. Northridge badly damaged downtown here, homes included. Without coastal air, temperature swings stress mortar more, and Santa Ana gusts test caps. Rule 445 burn limits do not reach Ventura County, by the way.
