Fireplace contractor in Tarzana: how we work
Choosing a fireplace contractor in Tarzana is easier when you know what to ask. Homesure Chimney Experts looks before we give any advice, tells you what we found in everyday words, and does not start work without your yes.
A remodel usually starts with the room, not the firebox. Ours starts with the firebox and the flue, because they decide what the room can have. Ask for a written quote and tell us what you picture.
What a remodel includes
You choose the pieces. We price each one.
- - The surround: stone or tile around the opening.
- The mantel: made to fit your room.
- The hearth: made wider, with the floor under it covered and protected.
- The insert: a gas or electric unit set into the firebox.
- A 3D picture of the finished look, if you ask for one before work begins.
You can take one piece or all of them. A small change does not have to be turned into a big one.
Before anything visible happens
Before any visible work begins, we confirm the firebox and flue meet code. This check comes first because it can change the plan. A surround is the last thing to go up, and it should go up on a firebox that can take the new design.
If the check finds a problem, we tell you in plain words, show you a photo and say whether it can wait. Nothing is fixed without your yes.
What sets the price
We do not print a price for a remodel, because the price is whatever the scope adds up to. The quote depends on:
- - The materials: stone, tile or something else, and how much of the wall they cover.
- The mantel: its size, and whether it is custom built.
- The hearth: the size of the extension and the floor beneath it.
- The insert: its fuel, its size, and any liner or gas line work.
- The condition of the firebox and flue, as found in the code check.
Each piece is its own line on the quote. If a number looks high, you can see which piece it belongs to.
Gas or electric
Swapping in an insert is one of the larger parts of a remodel. A gas unit needs a line to the firebox. An electric unit does not. We explain the difference in everyday words and let you decide which suits the room.
How the visit and quote work
- - You call and tell us what you would like changed.
- A technician looks at the fireplace, the firebox and the flue.
- We tell you what we found, with photos, and say what can wait and what cannot.
- You get a written quote with a line for each piece.
- Work starts only after you say yes.
If you want the plan on paper before you choose, request the scope.
Choosing a fireplace contractor
Ask every company the same questions.
- - Will you look at the firebox and flue before you design the surround?
- Is the code check part of the quote?
- Will I see each piece priced on its own line?
- Do you build the mantel, or only install one?
- Do you need my yes before each stage?
A company that cannot answer these on paper is asking you to take the price on trust.
Why the order matters
A contractor who starts with the room can finish a handsome surround and then discover that the flue cannot take the insert behind it. Starting with the firebox reverses that risk. The decision about the look comes after we know what the fireplace can do.
It also means the quote you get does not shift halfway through. If the check finds something, you hear about it before the quote is written, not after the stone is up.
Small job or full remodel
We never refuse a small job. A mantel, a hearth extension or a new insert is a complete job by itself. If you want to start small and add the rest later, the quote can be written that way. The firebox and flue are checked at the start, so the first stage never blocks the second.
What to have ready
- - A photo of the fireplace and the wall around it.
- A sense of the look you want, even loosely.
- Whether the fireplace burns wood now, and whether you want to change that.
- Anything you have noticed that worries you, such as a smell, a stain or a stuck damper.
What you can expect from us on the day
The technician looks, measures and photographs. You are told what was found in everyday words, with no jargon and no alarm. If something can wait, we say that as clearly as we say what cannot. Then you decide, and the quote reflects your decision.
